Instructions: Write 200-250 words. Statements exceeding the maximum number of words
will be cause for immediate disqualification. Keep in mind that this IS NOT an essay; it is a
statement of purpose. Clearly state why you are interested in participating in the program,
avoiding the obvious. You do not need to mention any of the following, as it is already
expected:
I have been an English teacher for more than 15 years and one of my long yearned
objectives since I started my degree has been to become a student at an American
university. I have always thought that been really involved in the teaching American
system can offer important elements that otherwise you cannot get in your own country.
I have worked in different school levels and assessment is a unique constant. I have
designed different exams at university and elementary level and I have had the
opportunity to create different kinds of them following parameters that I do not agree
sometimes. Besides I have taught English on a hybrid school system called “semiescolarizado”.
In this system I have to work on-line during the week and at weekends I
meet my students for feedback. Being in your course in the short term will first change
my view of assessment and secondly I will have enough support to use other means of
assessment precisely and successfully. This is to say, I wish to become more consistent by
having the theoretical basis to offer better assessment tools and help my teacher mates
understand doing so. I hope to be elected because I am sure I will apply what I learn and
this will change a great deal our current empirical assessment.
